Principal Investigator : Dr. Clemens M. Franz
Clemens M. Franz is Associate Professor at WPI Nano Live Science Institute at Kanazawa University since 2019. He studied Biochemistry at Freie Universität Berlin and later received a PhD in Cancer Cell Biology from University College London. After postdoctoral research at TU Dresden and Max-Planck-Institute for Cell Biology and Genetics, he became a Young Investigator Group Leader at the DFG-Center for Functional Nanostructures, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). In his research he applies a combination of optical and atomic force microscopy to investigate dynamic interactions between cells and their tissue environment. These studies include quantitating cellular adhesion forces by AFM-based single-cell force spectroscopy (SCFS), cell elasticity measurements and studying matrix remodeling by live-cell AFM imaging. Currently, he is developing nanoprobe techniques for exploring intracellular environments.
