Piotr Laidler, PhD, is Full Professor, The Head of the Chair of Medical Biochemistry at the Jagiellonian University Medical College (JUMC), Krakow, Poland since 1996. He studied chemistry at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow (1966-1971) and got PhD from Medical Academy in Krakow in 1979. He made post-doc in US at Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN  (1981-1983) where he was also visiting professor (1986). Prof. P. Laidler received DFSG Scholarship and spent one year in Biochimie II at the Georg-August University in Gottingen (1988-1989). He did habilitation in 1993 and become full professor in 2004. Prof. P. Laidler held numerous administrative positions and was the Vice-Rector of the Jagiellonian University for the Medical College (2012-2016). He has been teaching Biochemistry at tha Faculty of Medicine, JUMC since 1974 and was the Vice-Dean for international collabotration at the Faculty of Medicine, JUMC (2002-2008) and the Chairman of the Council of the School of Medicine in English (2002-2012; Faculty of Medicine, JUMC). Prof. P. Laidler main scientific interest has focused on enzymology, glycobiology, biology and biochemistry of cancer (biomechanical properties of cancer cells; signaling pathways triggered by adhesion molecules, growth factors, hormons, etc. and search of ways of intereference in their function in aim to decrease proliferative and invasive potential of cancer cells). He was the leader and main investigator of numerous national and international projects and grants finansed from Polish (KBN, MNiSW, NCN, statutory grants of Faculty of Medicine of JUMC) and European (EC; 3 projects in V and VI FP EU) sources. He supervised 13 PhD projects and authored and coauthored nearly 130 publications. Prof. P. Laidler received many awards among which the most prestigious was Honorary Doctorate of The University of Edinburgh - Hon D Sc (Edin) for achievements in scientific research and internatiional education (2016).
